(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on the part of Montreal called"the West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar with its meaning. They often believe it's an island to the that lies west of Montreal However, the West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently cited, however her short time in the city did not last long. Brugel grew to be a woman of a certain age living in Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. She wanted to become a professional dancer but because of a huge increase in her height, she outgrew all of her dancing partners. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. Once I outgrew male partners and gave up, I decided to give up. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. For Bruce, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. It was the teacher who recommended she take on a part in the annual school production. Following a trial her options, she was eventually the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program and graduated from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work been featured on both the small and big screen. She gained the most attention when she won her character of Rita in the acclaimed television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel played the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale which was filming over 10 years ago.
